Insurance

Participants at our events are expected to act responsibly and in a safe manner at all times, and to recognize and accept the inherent risks involved in all equestrian sports.

Health and the well-being of our horses is our primary concern.

All riders at DRMA events are required either:

to be members  of the Manitoba Horse Council, which automatically carries a liability and a rider  insurance, or
to provide a proof of membership in a similar organization (provincial Horse Council) with attendant insurance, or
to sign up for MHC membership before taking part in the ride.

Your Manitoba Horse Council (MHC) membership gives you three types of insurance:

  1. Personal Liability Insurance - If you or your horse are at fault for causing injury or damage and you are sued, then this insurance will pay for the settlement up to a maximum of five million dollars .
  2. Accidental Death or Dismemberment - During an MHC-sanctioned event if you are killed or if an accident results in the loss of a limb or in a fracture, then financial relief will be provided up to $25,000.00.
  3. Club Insurance - As a member of the MHC, the Distance Riders of Manitoba have two million dollars of liability insurance covering any ride or function.

Coverage is worldwide and is in effect as long as you are a MHC member.
